It is no secret that quarantine has really got me bored out of my mind. A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing the app store with a roommate of mine. I came across a number of games that I completely forgot existed. From four in the afternoon to two at night my roommate and I did not leave our chairs in the kitchen, obsessively playing our favourite childhood games. To give you all a day of mediocre entertainment, I will list some of the games you forgot existed.

1. Doodle Jump
The first game I remembered is Doodle Jump. I remember when I was around eight years old, my older brother got an iPod Touch for his birthday. The very first game he downloaded was Doodle Jump. The game is very simple, you are playing this little character that keeps jumping. You have to get as far as possible without falling or hitting any obstacles.

2. Tamago Egg
The second one does not exist anymore, but I randomly remembered it and wanted to talk about it. I am not sure if this was only something people played in my hometown. However, there was this phase in elementary school where everyone was tapping on an egg all day long. This app was called Tamago Egg. There really is no point to this game besides clicking an egg, it cracks a little further the more you click it. At a million clicks, it would break. Even though there was absolutely no point to this game for some reason everyone was playing it. If anyone would really like to play this game for some reason, I linked an alternative version here.

3. Fruit Ninja
Now this is another game I remember from the iPod days called Fruit Ninja. All you have to do is slice fruit, you can’t miss any of it or you’ll have to start over. The game has gotten a completely new look from how I remember it, but it is still the same principle and very enjoyable.

4. Draw Something
One game I was personally obsessed with was Draw Something. This game could be played with your friends which made it extra fun. You would get a word, and you would have to draw it. This drawing would be sent to another player and they had to guess the word. I’ve played this with my friends recently and still enjoy it as much as before. It is very entertaining to see how poor everyone’s drawing skills are when it comes to drawing on your phone.

5. Crossy Road
The fifth game I am going to talk about really takes me back. It is called Crossy Road. It is that game based on all the ‘a chicken crossed the road’ jokes. You are playing as a chicken and you have to cross the road without being hit by traffic. You can keep improving your high score and unlock more characters.

6. Temple Run
Temple Run was a game that was very popular during the iPod days. You play as a man running from apes in the jungle. While running you come across a bunch of obstacles you have to avoid. All my friends played this game back in the day.

7. Subway Surfers
A game very similar to Temple Run, is Subway Surfers. It is the same principle. You are running from something, only here you are a young graffiti artist running from the police. In the game you jump on trains, need to jump fences and many other obstacles. The more you mess up the closer the police gets.

8. Cow Evolution
The game that had me occupied the longest on that one night with my roommate was no doubt Cow Evolution. In Cow Evolution you play as a farmer and you multiply cows. Adding two cows together creates a new kind of cow. Combining those cows will create another type. There are endless cows to create in this game and it never stops. I can’t explain why, but it is incredibly addicting. There are a lot of versions of this game. In case you don’t like cows, they have a unicorn version, a platypus one, a panda one and many more. Endless entertainment!

9. Piano Tiles
The last game I like to mention is Piano Tiles. This game also had different variations of it, the original one is a bunch of moving tiles and you have to tap on all the black tiles. The screen looks like a piano which is probably where the name comes from. I could try to beat my own high score on this app all day. The longer you are playing the faster the tiles will go, if you miss one, you’re done.

I hope that some of these games unlocked memories you didn’t know you still had. This might keep you and a friend or roommate amused for a night. It might not be the greatest form of entertainment, but don’t we all miss being a kid sometimes?
