Were they good enough to fight the industry against James Cameron’s masterpiece? The 90s was a decade full of filmmaking. Some of those films became true blockbusters. Others remained cult classics. Which films were on top of their games?

Home Alone (1990)
After being left home during the holidays, eight-year-old Kevin must protect the house from evil (dumb) burglars who want to rob the place on Christmas Eve.
This classic Christmas film is also a children’s movie. Even though setting boobytraps, reading Playboys and wandering around the house with an iron in your hand does not sound very child-friendly. Do not try this at home. It certainly had impact on leading actor Macaulay Culkin.

Notting Hill (1999)
The life of bookstore owner William was pretty simple. This changes when he meets superstar Anna and they get romantically involved. Being together with the world’s most famous actress seems quite the challenge.
A film set in the world of filmmaking can create some ironic moments. In Notting Hill, Julia Roberts plays famous Anna Scott. In the film she is asked how much money she made during her last job. Her answer is $15.000.000. There was not much research necessary as this was exactly the amount Roberts received for filming Notting Hill. Cha-ching!

In this 90s classic we follow Simba along his journey. Will he be able to make his father proud and save his family from his evil uncle?
Uncle Scar, who looks nothing like the rest of the lions. This actually makes sense, because Scar was never designed to be related to Simba. It was only later that the writers realized a threat within the family would be even more interesting. The animators were so impressed with Jeremy Irons’ voice-acting performance as Scar, they even designed some of his features into the lion’s face. Long live the animation king!
