Booktok has been a trending subject for a while now. It comes from a section on the app TikTok where people talk about their favorite books, give others recommendations and will encourage you to start reading again.
I have seen a lot of book recommendations lately, and there have been many different opinions on them.

Therefore, I am here to tell you which book series are actually good and which are worth your time. Because book series can be a lot of work to read. These are definitely worth your time!
Most of these books fall under the category of ‘fantasy’ ish books. While this might not be your personal taste, give it a try! This is the year of trying out new things, so go for it!

The selection

This is a book I've read a few years ago. If you are not into reading books with a little bit of spice, but you still want some cute, romance recommendation, then this is the one for you!
The selection sets place in a different, dystopian reality where the people live according to caste systems. America Singer finds herself forced into the spotlight when she is chosen as one of the candidates for the Selection; the chance of a lifetime for girls from all levels of castes to compete for the heart of the prince and the opportunity to become the next princess. But for America Singer, being selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a competition for a crown she doesn't want. And living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. She starts to question all the plans she's made for herself and realizes that a life with Maxon isn't as bad as she was expecting it to be.

Whether you're a fan of dystopian fiction, romance, or simply looking for a thrilling escape from reality, "The Selection" series is sure to engage your imagination and makes you eager to turn each page. So, grab your book, settle in, and prepare to be swept away on a journey of love, adventure, and self-discovery.

The devil's night series

If you are looking for a good, spicy book, then look no further! This might be one of the spiciest books I've ever read, but don't get me wrong; I was loving the plot of this book.
Even though all of the characters definitely need some serious therapy, I was eating it up every single time. This series written by Penelope Douglas consist of the 5 books Corrupt, Hideaway, Kill switch, Conclave, Night fall and Fire night.
The story is compelling, dark, mysterious, hot and twisted! You will be on the edge of your seat till the end! Picture this: a group of wealthy, rebellious teens, a dark secret that binds them together, and a forbidden love that threatens to tear them apart. There has been a lot of controversy around this series, however, I absolutely loved it and besides all the spicy scenes, the plot is definitely worth it.
So run to the nearest bookstore and spend that money, because trust me: It is worth it.

Twilight

Alright, if you have never heard of either the book or the movie Twilight, you have been living under a rock. Well, if you haven't dived into this vampy saga yet, let me tell you why it's still totally worth your time.
Isabella Swan is a regular 17-year-old girl, who decides to move to this town ‘Forks’ to live with her dad after her mom and stepdad decide to travel the world. Bella hates Forks, because it is a boring, small town where it rains basically every single day.
However, on her first day of school she gets intrigued by Edward Cullen, who is very mysterious and later turns out to be a vampire.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Vampires? Really? But trust me, Stephenie Meyer makes it work. She creates this world where vampires and werewolves exist alongside humans, and the tension between them is obvious. I'm sure we've all seen the cringy moments of the movie, either on TikTok or on your TV screen, but I swear to you that the book is better.
Twilight isn't just about romance and supernatural creatures. It's also about friendship, family, and finding your place in the world. It's about embracing yourself and accepting others for who they are.
So, whether you're Team Edward, Team Jacob, or Team Bella-just-should've-stayed-single, Twilight is a timeless story that'll suck you in (pun intended) and leave you craving for more. Trust me, you won't regret sinking your teeth into this one.

The Hungergames

Okay, so you know how sometimes you pick up a book and it just grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until you've devoured every single page? Yeah, that's "The Hunger Games" trilogy for you. Suzanne Collins can write a book like nobody else can. This book series will have you screaming, crying and throwing up, but definitely in a good way!
The Hungergames has been popular for many years, but ever since the new movie version of her latest part of the Hungergames has come out, it deserves some more recognition!
Set in a future world where the Capitol rules without mercy and the districts are forced to participate in an annual event called the Hunger Games, this series follows the journey of Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen-year-old girl, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district, district 12. When her little sister's name is reaped for the games, she volunteers as a tribute to save Primrose's life. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making difficult choices...
But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom. There's also a dash of romance thrown into the mix with the whole Peeta vs. Gale dilemma. And let me tell you, the love triangle in this series will have you flipping pages faster than you can say "Team Peeta."
Because honestly, if you are “Team Gale”, it is time for you to put the book down and seek some therapy.
So if you're looking for a series that'll keep you on the edge of your seat while also making you think about the world around you, "The Hunger Games" trilogy is where it's at. Trust me, once you start, you won't be able to put it down.

Cresent City

Let's talk about Sarah J. Maas, the queen of adult fantasy fiction. Sarah J maas is an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment. Her books are by far the most amazing, thrilling and exciting books I've ever read. Sarah J maas has written three extraordinary book series, which all ultimately connect together. These three book series are placed in different worlds and different realities, but still she manages to make it all make sense. Her latest addition: Cresent City, House of flame and shadows. This book really ties it all together. Sarah really is a mastermind. She has thought of everything; in all of her books there are small clues and connections to her other books. Which is exactly why it is worth your time to read her very long series existing of 16 (!) books.
I can already hear you thinking, why would I ever read 16 books?
Trust me on this, you will.
First off, there's the throne of glass series where a kickass assassin will quite literally take on the world. This book has the most amazing side characters, surprising twists and action. But please, be aware of the emotional rollercoaster you are about to step on.
Then there is the story of Feyre Archeron, the book series of Acotar, or ‘a court of thorns and roses.’ Feyre is struggling to keep her family alive in the human world, when all of the sudden she basically gets kidnapped by a shapeshifting faerie, who also happens to be the high lord of a court in the fae world.  After that, her whole life changes.
Acotar is a book full of romance, danger, magic and enough steam to fog up your glasses. Lastly there's Cresent City. You've got Bryce Quinlan, a half-human, half-Fae badass who's just trying to navigate life after her best friend got murdered. However, she will find herself in a position where she is the one to search for dangerous monsters, and in doing so she not only finds suspicious secrets, but she will also find the love of her life.
Trust me, this one will keep you guessing until the very end.

Even though her realities are totally unrealistic, Sarah J Maas makes sure to write it in a way that when you read her books, it feels like you are living the story. So if you're in the mood for a fantasy series that's equal parts thrilling, enchanting, and totally addictive, then Sarah J. Maas's books are a must-read. Seriously, once you start, you won't be able to put them down.

Shatter me

The way Tahere Mafi writes her book Shatter me is really something else. It is different, unique and honestly just incredibly good.
Shatter me is about Juliette Ferras. And Juliette has this crazy power, her touch litterally kills. Talk about a tough situation, right? She has been locked in a cell ever since she accidentally killed somebody. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
She hasn't touched or seen someone for exactly 264 days. Until one morning she wakes up and discovers a boy in her cell. From that moment on, everything changed.
This series has some serious plot twists, and even if dystopian fantasy books aren't really your thing, it can't hurt to try. I have made several of my friends fall in love with this book and the genre by forcing them to read it, so I'm sure you will too.
What I love most about this series is Tahereh Mafi's writing style. It's unique, it's poetic, and it sucks you right into Juliette's mind. You'll feel every emotion right along with her, from the heart-pounding action to the heart-wrenching romance.
