Hello Breda! What now?
It all started when I came to the Netherlands to study Creative Business at BUAS. Being born and raised in Koblenz, Germany I didn’t know how to speak any Dutch. That is why I had already started learning Dutch before I moved to Breda. I did this by watching Dutch Youtubers and listening to Dutch music.
In the beginning, I had a German accent, but all the Dutchies were amazed at how well I could speak their language. My first year at BUAS is also where I discovered my love for radio. For Production House, I chose radio and soon got to host my own show on HUB Radio. That went so well that me and a friend got to do our show at the local radio station called BredaNu. When I first started my study, I had no expectations about what I wanted to do in the future. I simply did not know. BUAS helped me discover my hidden love for radio.
Living my best life
I was so happy when I heard that I got an internship at a Dutch radio station. It is very funny to me that I’m working for the radio station 100% NL while I am 0% NL. I guess it was a good idea to pick up learning Dutch this early. I love my internship as a producer. It has already helped me make so many connections.
I have been singing for as long as I can remember. I have always wanted to write my own songs, but I was never satisfied with the results. When the station director found out I was a singer and German, he told me to go into the studio with a producer and that we should write a song in German.
So, we did. The result is really good (if I may say so myself). I am soon going back to the studio to record the final vocals and very soon, I will probably have my very own debut single. We might be releasing it in early 2023, you heard it here first…
A sneak peak of the lyrics in English...
And I know it's not the end of the world
But I really thought that this could have been something
It hurts so bad to see you like this
Baby, you'll never understand how much you mean to me
My future
I still struggle with making plans for the future. If you asked me at the beginning of my study, I would have had no clue because I had no vision. If you ask me now, I have no clue because there are too many possibilities to choose from. I would love to keep working as a producer at a radio station (especially the one I am doing my internship at right now. If you read this, hire me).
Besides that, I also have my own show at another radio station called JINX Radio. It would be crazy if I got to do my own show at the national radio. Recently, I also discovered that I have a relatively good voice for doing voiceover. I might do that as a side activity.
But the one dream I had since I was little, is becoming a singer and releasing my own songs. It never felt like it was realistic, so I just accepted it and made other plans. But now that I have had the possibility to go to a recording studio, and have someone else produce a song for me, this feeling changed. I feel like my dream is closer than ever. I am really excited about where this journey will lead to, but I am forever grateful for my internship and the many possibilities it has brought with it. Not only did I meet the right people, but it also changed my perspective and showed me many things I did not know about myself.
A tip for everyone reading this and thinking “I want this too”: it sounds silly, but most of the time all you need to do is ask for it. If people see potential and passion in you, they will be more than willing to help you.
