Tell Me What You Feel tells the story of two young people whose past experiences are reflected in their new relationship. Patryk (Janek Sałasiński) and Maria (Izabella Dudziak) are artists whose experiences have shaped their patterns of love. They are both united by art, which they use not only for self-expression but also as a somewhat therapeutic tool. Together, they must confront the past that has shaped their adult lives.
The film was inspired by the work and lives of Polish artists – Patryk Różycki, Karolina Balcer, Alicja Rogalska, and Łukasz Surowiec. The director and co-screenwriter of the film is Łukasz Ronduda, an art curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Warsaw. He is also a significant figure in the world of contemporary cinema. As he himself emphasizes, the creation of the film was influenced not only by his personal relationship with art, but above all by his fascination with the younger generation. How different it is from previous generations and how it deals with its emotions and experiences.
Thanks to the acting of the emerging young actors, the film portrays emotions in a believable way that many young people can relate to. The film contains a significant theme of coping, or rather, the lack thereof, with grief and the profound impact that relationships with parents can have on a child's growth. The frequence of close shots made the film feel close and intimate but also served as a reflection of the closeness between the characters.
An interesting contrast in the film was the juxtaposition of the two main characters. Patryk, who comes from a small village, is marked by the grief of his parents, who tried to cope with it in different ways. I believe the film very credibly portrayed the realities of life and the mentality of people from smaller towns and villages. Maria, on the other hand, was raised in a big city, which reflects her perception of therapy and coping with emotions. She, in turn, is burdened with a difficult relationship with her father. When Patryk enters Maria's environment, he clearly doesn't feel at home. However, thanks to their mutual willingness to connect, they try different ways to find common ground. These methods, however, are often unconventional, which is an incredibly engaging element of this story.
The film explores issues faced by young people today, as well as those who have decided to change themselves and their environment. I think this story will be close to many people's hearts and lives. It will likely resonate with each person in a different way. Tell Me What You Feel is worth exploring - both in terms of its artistic elements as well as its plot.
