An article about finding a job in The Netherlands, from a person who does not know Dutch (even though I lived here for 4 years now). We all come here to study but for some us, it is not only that. Some of us come from abroad and we want to be on our own and by this, I mean- paying for your education, but also to work for your own money. This article is for the people who want a job, a student job that can help them get through life. Not only helping one’s life but having the ability to buy whatever you want (hopefully) whenever you need it.

In my first year, I struggled a lot every month because my parents were able to give me money enough to buy food and I was felt super guilty even for that gesture because it was my own choice to go abroad and live on my own. That is why I made everything possible to find a job that pays my bills but also leaves me with some extra for a nice dinner with friends or the amazing Dr. Martens that I always wanted. Knowing that I’m not the only one I’m going to list places where I have worked, where you can apply also for a job. The good thing is that I will let you know what exactly my experience was to help you have a clearer view and opinion from firsthand.

Recruit a Student is a temporary employment agency for which you need your ID and your BSN to apply. The good thing is that if you have the documents (we all do since we study and live here) you will be signed in the company for a part-time job of your choice. However, once you are in, they will call you or add you to a WhatsApp group where they will announce jobs for specific dates and how many people they need. The jobs vary in locations since some are in Breda and for some, you need to travel, but don’t worry even for that they have thought: there is always a student with a driver’s license who gets the company car, and you can travel to the job location. As I said earlier the jobs may vary:

- There are a lot of jobs for cleaners which is not the best option in terms of what every person wants to, but they are well paid. Not only is the payment very good but you have shifts for 5-6 hours cleaning guest houses in a resort, but you also don’t clean houses left in a complete mess after a party, it is just small family houses near the beach for example in Zeeland. Also, it is a job that requires minimal training and delivers maximum returns.

- Logistic jobs as many as you wish, which is something I guess nice and useful if you are studying Logistics in our university. Moreover, for all departments, you will be trained, and you can put that in your CV also the clients are doing the logistics process of branded products from Levi's, Puma, and Tommy Hilfiger, for example.

- A lot of jobs at festivals! This one is nice because you get to go to so many festivals or events that we as students cannot always afford. The jobs usually consist of you being behind a bar but still, experience the whole event. I personally had a lot of fun on these ones with my friends. Working with your friend is also an option in Recruit a student and you can bring friends to sign up also and we can all agree that work is way more fun when colleagues come from your own network.

- Administrative jobs. This one is especially for people speaking languages besides English and students who would like to gain relevant work experience in the business world.

There are a lot more options. You can choose whatever you want or want to do. The best thing is that you can do multiple jobs for example sign up for cleaning on Monday because you don’t have classes and then check for a job for Saturday for example in a warehouse doing inventory. They also offer a lot of internships which is always helpful when you are struggling to find one. Recruit a student is the most flexible place for job listings because they provide you with their app where you can make your own schedule depending on how busy you are with projects in BUAS. However, on their website, you can see if the salary is also mentioned, or you can always ask the recruiter before you agree to a job offer

. If you are interested go and check their website or do as I do if you prefer face to face communication: visit the office and ask all questions needed.
