Poem

BUas people have been asked what the one word is they would use to describe the ‘Stay at home’ situation. Positivity was not commonly present in their answers. But I understand. We are all feeling the loneliness, frustration and challenges of the situation. Your words, not mine. But I understand.

The great days of being locked up in heaven

Life is set on pause in the metropolis

All is moving in a tedious slo-mo just like the sloth from Zootropolis

Timeless days waiting for more

Feels like all is coming with the pace of Flash Slothmore

Is this a game of ping pong?

Because it is really taking so long

A situation that is so bizarre

But see some are busy playing the guitar

While dreaming of being a world star

You say is transformational being only at home

But let’s admit we are not ‘Under the dome’

John Lennon sang ‘Isolation’ in 1970

Saying how everyone has to have a home

And guess who was out of that home making the ‘Isolation show’ in 2020

Yes, we are talking about Charlie Hicks

On the radio playing music hits

Some are comfortable in bed watching Friends again

Alright, how can we abstain

Boring you say

Hey, things don’t have to be so grey

Let’s be together and not missing a beat

Get on your feet

And repeat:

Life is to be enjoyed, in good and bad times, we can choose to be in the great days of being locked up in heaven

The ‘Stay at home’ is confusing for everyone. For me. For you. What is gathered here is the description of our feelings. What I see when I read your responses, people of BUas, is that we are experiencing the same things. Anxiety and loneliness. What I believe is that all we can do is adapt and see the good. Switch from bad to great. Here to inspire, here to encourage I say let’s ditch the saddening words and embrace what we are given now. Even those words with their negative meaning can be put in light-hearted positive boundaries.
