There are some mysteries that may never be solved. Even though the truth might be out there, it doesn’t mean we will ever find it. Here is a list of unsolved mysteries that will leave you wondering what happened…
1.The incident at Dyatlov pass
One of the first nights of February 1959, nine Russian ski-hikers set up a camp on a slope, enjoyed some food, and prepared for sleep-- However, the night didn’t go as planned as the group never returned from the Ural Mountains. On February 26, the hiker’s abandoned tent was found ripped open from the inside. Something that made the scene even stranger was that surrounding the area of the tent, footprints were found of the hikers, some only wearing socks, a single shoe and some barefoot. The footprints continued until the edge of the forest which was nearby. There, two bodies of the ski-hikers were found. They were only wearing underwear and were predicted to be the cause of death by hypothermia. More months of searching went by and the other 7 bodies were found. After further examination, hypothermia could no longer make sense at all. They found other causes like; third-degree burns, vomiting blood, blunt force trauma consistent with a brutal assault, missing both eyes and missing a tong. On top of that, it was found that some of their clothing was radioactive. There are numerous theories of what could have happened the night that the hikers were driven from their camp. These theories include drug overdose, UFO’s, KGB-interference, military involvement, animal attack and much more. Recently a new theory was presented by a documentary filmmaker called “infrasound”. This is a terrifying but real phenomenon in which the wind and topography interact which creates an audible hum that can create nausea, panic, dread, chills, nervousness, raised heartbeat rate, and breathing difficulties.

2. The Mary celeste
The Mary celeste is one of the biggest mysteries known to the seas. On 7 November 1872, the ship left the shores of New York to go to Italy. Onboard was Captain Briggs, his wife, their two-year-old daughter and 7 crew members. The ship was found intact a few weeks later, however, the inhabitants were no-where to be found. The crew had abandoned the ship, but there was no evidence of attack or danger. The only thing missing from the ship was a lifeboat, which could possibly prove that the crew had left the ship. The crew were never heard or seen from again, which leaves the reasoning for the abandoned ship unknown.

3. The dancing plague of 1518
In July 1518 a woman was found dancing through the streets of Strasbourg, France. Historical recourses say that a group of mostly young women joined in and didn’t stop. It is unknown why the dancing started and up to 400 people ended up joining the dance. The crazy part about this story is that the dancing didn’t last for minutes, hours or days, but it lasted for weeks. Supposedly some danced themselves to death and city authorities were alarmed by the increasing number of dancers. An explanation at that time was demonic possession and overheated blood. Investigators from the 20th century theorized that the cause might have been the bread that was consumed which could have been contaminated with fungal disease ergot. This is known to produce convulsions. American sociologist Robert Bartholomew suggested that the dancers were followers of a heretical sect, dancing to attract divine favour. One of the most accepted theories is that the dancing plague was a form of mass psychogenic disorder, which was written down by American medical historian John Waller.

4. The pollock sisters
In 1957, a tragic car accident happened, which caused the death of two young English sisters. A year later their mother gave birth to twins, Gillian and Jennifer, who started to resemble the two sisters that passed away. When the twins were old enough to talk, they began identifying and requesting toys that had belonged to their dead sisters, pointing out landmarks only their dead sisters would have known, like the school they attended. Sometimes they would panic upon seeing cars idling, “That car is coming to get us!” they reportedly screamed. After the girls turned 5 their lives went back to normal and didn’t show any incidents anymore related to their dead sisters. The story still made its way to Dr Ian Stevenson, a psychologist who believed it was a case of reincarnation.

5. The Voynich manuscript
The Voynich manuscript is one of the world’s most mysterious books. This is because since it has been discovered 600 years ago, not one of the people that laid eyes on the book has been able to decipher it. The manuscript caught the attention from professional to unprofessional cryptographers and even became a subject of glorious World War 2 code breakers. The book seems to be about plants that don’t seem to exist. After many failed attempts to decipher the manuscript, it became the holy grail of cryptography, even though there is a suspicion that it could be nothing more, than just a practical joke.
