Crowdfunding Bocaina Project
As of this year, BUas has launched a new project; The Bocaina Project. We are delighted to introduce you to this project. This project consists of a multicultural team of students and staff. Together with students from Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), a public institution in Brazil, we are going to create a documentary sharing the stories of the Bocaina communities. We are honored to have this opportunity and we would like to share this with you.
Who are they and why do we want to share their stories?
Within the state of Rio de Janeiro, in the Bocaina region, three unified communities live in a sustainable way and have ancestorial knowledge. The Indigenous, the Quilombalas, and the Caiçaras. Unfortunately, these three communities are facing challenges in preserving their land, cultural heritage, and traditional lifestyle. Every day, they have to fight to keep their own houses and land.
With this project, we want to generate local and international awareness about the hardships suffered by the traditional community of Bocaina, and give them international attention to create more impact towards the citizens and government of the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
How are we going to achieve this?
The documentary is going to be created in the region of Bocaina, together with the UFF students and the community of Bocaina. During this semester, our 3rd-year students are visiting the communities to connect with them and to conduct more knowledge for further research. In the first semester of next year, our 2nd-year (then 3rd-year) students will continue this project with the knowledge of this semester. They will visit the region again to produce the documentary.
