If you haven’t watched any of the masterclasses on Masterclass.com, this is the sign you were waiting for. Even if you weren’t waiting for it, I am responsibly persuading you to spend your money on this. We can all agree that the annual subscription of $180 is expensive, especially for students.
However, getting access to exclusive content and “virtual time” with the biggest professionals of today, makes it worth the price. Imagine having the opportunity to sit and listen to the famous film director Martin Scorsese giving you an insight of even one of his thoughts. The one factor that makes the classes so fascinating is that they are all made as if you are actually there in a private session with all these celebrities and true experts, with huge career accomplishments. The fact that most of these people started from mediocre families and built up their names and reputations by doing what they love and what they are good at is so thrilling to me. It makes me believe everything is possible. And indeed, it is, if you are able to look at it from a philosophical point of view.
I am not even that interested in fashion & design, nor in sports, but I am persuaded to explore that category in addition to the others. The extraordinary knowledge gathered from specialists after years of experience, presented in these videos gets me inspired to learn more about every sector. All I am saying is that you can hardly miss this opportunity. Split the subscription with a friend, you can figure it out.
Personally, I am very interested in advertisement and how it works almost like magic on people. That is why I started my Masterclass session with Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein’s Advertisement and Creativity masterclass. It got me thinking about how multi-layered and intriguing this branch of media could be. Jeff Goodby and Ritch Silverstein are content creators, art directors and simply put - advertisement icons. They are the creators behind famous ads and campaigns like “Got milk?” and the “Budweiser lizards”. Silverstein says that he doesn’t feel like he is selling or promoting something, he just wants to tell a story. As I mentioned in my article “Making use of storytelling in public speaking”, storytelling in every shape or form is the most powerful way of catching people’s attention. It always comes up, especially in the media field, because it brings up the engagement factor. The story in this case may be represented by a brand but at its core wouldn’t stand business, instead, it would be entertainment. That’s how true quality content comes together. “We want to be artists in a business world” states Ritch Silverstein.
That is the reason why I am so interested in advertisement, as it combines art with business and all that is based on humans and how their minds are affected by both. This is one of the masterclasses I deeply recommend watching because it’s fun and easy to follow. Moreover, the fact that advertisement is all around us and most people don’t recognize it as a promotional tool emphasises the need for us to understand it better. These were my reasons as to why you should definitely try and figure out a way to get access to Masterclass.com.
