After a long delay due to the coronavirus, the latest James Bond film “No Time To Die” finally premiered on October 8th. Starring Daniel Craig, Lena Seydoux, Rami Malek, and many more. The film became a huge hit. It is a film full of action, adventure, and love and is the 25th James Bond film in the series. What the James Bond films are known for are the title songs. This year's honor went to 20-year-old Billie Eilish, who sang a beautiful title song. This was even rewarded with a triple crown!
Billie and her brother, Finneas, started making music at a young age. Together they wrote songs, recorded them, and posted them on Soundcloud, a platform where they could show their recorded songs to their friends. Billie broke through at the age of 15 with the song Ocean Eyes, which her brother Finneas had written. This song was also posted on sound cloud. Unlike the previous songs, 'Ocean Eyes' became very popular on the platform and so it became her and her brother's breakthrough.
No Time to Die
At the age of 20 years and 99 days, Billie Eilish was the youngest artist ever to write and sing a James Bond title song. She broke the record of Sheena Easton, who sang the title song "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981 at the age of 22. She co-wrote the song with her brother, and composer Hans Zimmer, well known for orchestra music from the Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean, also contributed to the song. The song received a lot of attention internationally. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, she teased the lyrics of the song are inspired by the film's plot. There's plenty of evidence in the lyrics that Bond faces a betrayal from someone he loves. It was special that, a 20-year-old girl, sang the title song of a James Bond movie. This certainly didn't go unrewarded...
On March 14th, 2021, the 63rd edition of the Grammy Awards took place. A special edition, since there was no public to attend due to corona. Billie won here the “Best Song Written for Visual Media” award for her number “No Time to Die”.
On January 9th, 2022, the 69th edition of the Golden Globe awards took place. This awards ceremony recognizes the best in film and American television of 2021, chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Here, “No Time to Die” won the “Best original song”.
On March 27th, 2022, the 94th edition of the Academy Awards, mostly known as the Oscars, took place. The song “No Time to Die” won also here the “Best original song” award, which completed the “triple list".
A song will be named triple crown when it has won 3 awards, namely a Grammy award, a Golden Globe award, and an Oscar. Only sixteen songs have won all three of these awards in song writing categories. “Beauty and the Beast” (1991), “My Heart Will Go On” (1997), and “Shallow” (2018) are a few of those songs. “No Time to Die” is not the first James Bond song that got the label triple crown. In 2012 the song Skyfall by Adele also won the 3 awards.
Billie stated that singing the James Bond theme was a life goal. “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honor. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock” is what Billie stated in an interview with Billboard. You could say that Billie is happier than ever.
