As a student you experience a lot of stress. You have to go to school five days a week, go to your side job or social events on the days and nights off, and work on your school projects after school. There's barely any space for relaxation, but ASMR is a possible and great solution. It can calm you down after a long day and you can even use it to fall asleep faster. You can also use it while you're reading or studying.
ASMR stands for: autonomous sensory meridian response. Maybe that doesn't make any sense. I'll explain it in an easier way. It’s a tingling feeling, or goosebumps, you can get from audio or visual triggers. Like: whispering or slow hand movements. It’s like a massage for your brain. ASMR can be therapeutic, and it can help to reduce anxiety, depression and even insomnia.
People who make ASMR content are called: ASMRtists. Like artists, for ASMR. They make videos on YouTube where they are for example: whispering, tapping, act like they are brushing or cutting your hair, or applying your make-up. They really go all out with their roleplays. Some pretend they are a doctor and you are their patient. The ASMRtists often wear costumes, are in character, have beautiful decor and use a green screen.
One of my favourite ASMRtists is ASMR Glow. She has nice visual triggers like face brushing and has fun concepts with her roleplays. I also like Gibi ASMR. She has the biggest ASMR channel on YouTube with over 4,4 million subscribers. Another personal favourite is Nanou ASMR. She is from Belgium and is only fifteen years old. She has almost a million subscribers and her audio quality is amazing.
If you don’t like whispering, you should listen to ASMR Bakery. She doesn't whisper and only makes videos of other sounds, like tapping and scratching. Some of her videos are hours long. This is also nice for studying, because you’re not distracted by what is being said and you don't have to keep switching between videos. Latte ASMR has amazing set design. Her background makes it feel like you're actually there. Lastly, I like Gentle Whispering ASMR. She has a nice and calming voice.
You can even watch interviews with celebrities where they do ASMR. This is mainly just funny, because most of them have no idea what they’re doing. However, some are surprisingly good, like Cardi B. She says she also listens to ASMR before going to bed, so that’s probably why she’s so good at it.
What if ASMR doesn't give you the tingles? That's fine, you’re not the only one. A popular ASMRtist: ASMR Darling, explained it when she was a guest at The Kelly Clarkson Show. She said that if you experience the ASMR tingles, it’s more likely you’re an introvert. Kelly jokingly said that that’s probably why she doesn’t get tingles, because she's an extrovert. Still, it can be very relaxing for everyone, even if you don’t get the tingles.
So, get cosy in bed and give ASMR a try. Tip: listen with headphones for the ultimate experience.
