  1. Fufu with Egusi soup – Ghana  

Fufu originates from West and Central Africa. It is made by boiling root vegetables and then mashing them into a nice dough. The ingredients vary by region but usually include yams, plantains and cassava. These ingredients are easy to purchase in your local grocery store and or an oriental toko. The dish has a neutral taste, which is why it is usually served with different types of soups. In Nigeria, Fufu is served with soups such as Egusi, Ogbono, and Efo riro.  

  • Egusi soup typically features meat, seafood and vegetables.  
  • Ogbono soup is made from ogbono seeds (African mango seeds), palm oil, assorted meats, and traditional spices. 
  • Efo riro soup is a rich vegetable soup which also includes beef and fish to your liking.

A dish with small balls of dough filled with seasoned minced beef or lamb. You can compare this dish to Chinese dumplings. This dish is usually served with two sauces: a garlic yogurt sauce and a spicy sauce of chili pepper and melted butter. The combination of the soft, doughy Manti, spicy and fresh sauces is simply heaven. They come in all different kinds of forms, the most common one is the pyramid-looking form. Give it a try!
