Easy ways to Travel from Home
There can be many reasons why you are not able to physically travel at the moment. One of the main reasons in 2020 is obviously the coronavirus, however, there can be many more reasons, such as not having enough money for your dream trip, not having enough free days from your work/school, or maybe you are afraid of flying. Good thing for you is that you do not necessarily need to travel to a destination to see its beautiful nature, visit the museums and try their dishes. A positive outcome of the Coronavirus is that online/home traveling became a big topic recently, which means that you can travel from home. To help you find some great destinations and plan your online trip or relive a past one, I created a list with some travel inspiration.
Visit Museums
Museums make a perfect cultural experience during your trip; however, they can be a bit expensive and who wants to wait in long lines, then once you finally get in, be packed in a crowded room?! Luckily for history and art lovers, you do not have to go through all that trouble. Google Arts and Culture created free virtual tours through many museums. Which gives you the opportunity to watch their beautiful collections digitally without having to leave the house. You can for example “visit” the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the Louvre in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, and many more.
Explore National Parks and Monuments
Another great way to spend a day of your trip is to visit a National Park somewhere in the world. Google Arts and Culture did not just create virtual museum tours, but they also created virtual tours through some of the world’s most impressive National Parks, 113 to be exact. So, are you ready to see the Statue of Liberty in New York from up close, take a virtual walk through the Grand Canyon in Arizona, visit the impressive Alcatraz Island in San Francisco, and explore many more parks from your living room. There are also companies that offer online tours through cities. One of these companies is Let’s Meet in Athens, who organize zoom tours in which they give you a tour through Athens with a guide by bike for €12, -.
Try International Dishes
To eat typical cultural dishes from a country is for sure an experience on its own, one you cannot miss while traveling, but again, you do not have to actually travel to the country in order to taste their food. Bring out the chef in you and cook some typical dishes from the country you like. You can easily find all sorts of recipes online. To give you some inspiration, one of my favourite websites for Greek recipes is kokenmetelefteria.com, here you can find the most delicious dishes. Don’t forget to buy or make the typical drink from the country as well to make the evening an even bigger success. You can choose drinks such as Ouzo if you go for a Greek night, Aperol Spritz to get all Italian, Red Wine to get a more French vibe, Mojito to get al Cuban or Sangria to feel all Spanish. To make the tasting of these dishes and drinks even more fun, invite your friends or family for a country-themed dinner at your place and make sure you created a music playlist with songs that fit the theme of the night.
Create A Scrapbook
Maybe you are not able to go anywhere as of right now, but you’ve probably been on some great adventures before. Why not relive these amazing adventures by creating your own scrapbook. Go through your photos from your past trip, pick your favourite ones, print them, and start putting them together in a book. Additionally, you can describe the photos and make some drawings next to them, you can get as creative as you like! If you also like to make it a bit more of a challenge, try to write everything in the language of the country you’ve been.
Watch Travel themed Movies and Series
If you like a lay-back entertained way of traveling, watching travel-themed movies and series is a perfect solution. You can, for example, watch the movie Letters to Juliet. The movie is filmed in Tuscany, Italy and perfect for those who love romantic movies. If romantic movies are not really your cup of tea, and you prefer a comedy/drama more, then The Bucket list might be a better choice for you. This movie is filmed across several amazing destinations such as China, Egypt, France, India, and Tanzania. However, maybe you prefer series over movies, in that case Hawaii Five-0, a police series filmed on the tropical island Hawaii might be a good choice. Another popular series is Outlander, a historical fiction filmed in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Anyway, enough to choose from for sure!
Hopefully, these ideas gave you some inspiration for when you’re stuck at home and showed you that you do not have to leave your house to travel. Just be creative and plan your next home travel, happy travels!
