Stockholm is the capital and largest city in Sweden. The capital exists out of 14 islands and is one of Europe’s cleanest cities. The city is very trendy in many different aspects and has a very rich history. Stockholm is a great place to visit because of the big variety of things to visit and do. Here’s a little guide on what to do when going to Stockholm. Enjoy!

Gamla Stan

Gamla Stan (meaning “old town”) is the center of Stockholm. This old town has pretty cobbled streets, colorful buildings, and a lot of nice cafes and shops. It is great to take a stroll around Gamla Stan and explore the old town. In Gamla Stan you have Stortorget Square, where you can find the famous colorful buildings. Cars aren’t allowed in Gamla Stan, so this makes it a lot easier to explore the “old town”.

Monteliusvägen

Monteliusvägen is a viewpoint where you have great views of Stockholm, especially at sunset. This place has a 500-meter-long walking path, so it is great to walk here. There is also a small park where you can sit down to enjoy the beautiful view of the city.

Hornsgatan

Hornsgatan is a street in Södermalm, which is of course in Stockholm as well. Here you can find various vintage boutiques and thrift stores such as Replace Fashion, Judits Second Hand, MJ Retro, and many more. So, if you are into thrift shopping or finding unique vintage finds you should definitely go here!

St. Paul Bageri

There are many different bakeries in Stockholm, but St. Paul Bageri was one of my personal favorites. The bakery offers drinks such as (iced) coffees. They also offer sandwiches, bread, cinnamon rolls, croissants (with filling), and many more options. I love this cafe because it offers a great variety of food and the cafe itself has a nice interior. The bakery has three locations across Stockholm, namely Sankt Paulsgatan 24, Drottninggatan 73C, and Götgatan 42.

Stockholm Subway Station

The Stockholm subway station is the longest art exhibit in the world, it is around 110 kilometers long. The Stockholm subway stations are famous for their big murals.  These murals have been made by several artists and they can date back all the way to 1957. It is quite fun to travel on the subway in Stockholm because of the variating art. Some subway stations where you can find the art are T-Centralen Station, Stadion Station, Tensta Station Kungsträdgården Station, Rådhuset Station, and Akella Station. I personally found the public transport in Stockholm very clear. You have various ways to buy tickets, I bought my tickets at a service desk. You have the option to buy tickets that are valid for 24 hours, 72 hours, and 30 days.

Drottningholm palace

Drottningholm Palace is a private residence of the royal family that you can find just outside of Stockholm. The palace is built on Lovön island and is easily accessible by public transport. There are guards outside the palace, and here you can walk around for free. Drottningholm palace has a stunning yard, and you can also visit the restaurant which is on the residence as well. If you want to look inside the Palace you have to pay for a ticket. For students, these tickets will cost around 6 euros and for adults it will be around 12 euros.
